CARMEN - GEORGES BIZET
Opera in four acts by the French composer Georges Bizet.
His excellent performance as Morales, Alcalá Regiment corporal, led Régis Mengus to defend the role in three major stages: Opera de Lille (May / June 2010), Opera Caen (October 2010) and Opera Tours (Jan 2014)
Act 1
Plaza of Seville, from a side the factory of cigarettes and from other the barracks of the Dragons of Alcalá. At noon, there is exchange of guards and the workers leave the factory. Among them is Carmen, a sultry gypsy, desired by all. Micaela, Don José's bridaL, one corporal of the corporation, awaits, bringing a letter from his mother that wants to see him. Then, having returned to work, there is a great commotion in the factory. The officer Zuniga orders to Dom José breaks down the riot. He returns bringing Carmen,under arrest, for has injured a colleague. Carmen seduces him, he is looses her and is stuck by it.
Act 2
This night in the tavern of Lillas Pastia. The bar is ignited by the music, and beverage the night atmosphere when is announced the arrival of Escamillo, a bullfighter from Granada. Women enchanted with him, including Carmen, who is waiting Dom José. After the departure of all, smugglers ask for help from Carmen and her friends to get the next load in the city. Don José appears and is invited by Carmen to join the group. He is reluctant, but after dueling with Zuniga, who had returned to the bar looking for Carmen, is forced to desert and join the smugglers.
Act 3
Mountains near Seville - smugglers gather to enter the city. Don José is sorry and Carmen has already annoyed to him. ... Don José is watching when Escamillo appears and He confesses to have an involvement with Carmen. They fight and Carmen prevents Don José kills Escamillo. Micaela, who had climbed the mountain looks for Dom José, She hands him a letter from his mother, who is sick and wants to see him before she dies. He leaves, threatening Carmen and promising to meet her later.
Act 4
Streets of Seville, next to the bullring - is race day. Vendors and the people mingle with the arrival of "gangs" of bullfighters. Escamillo and Carmen enteras his new girlfriend. All address themselves to the Bullring, but Carmen, which is advised by her friends that Don José is there.
Carmen, without fear of anything, Face him saying do not love him anymore and breaks the ring he had won it. After this act of desdain, Don José kills the gypsy and cries over his body.
