CYRANO AND ROXANNE - EDMOND ROSTAND
In 2008, Régis Mengus career took an international dimension, with his debut at the National Opera of Athens "Cyrano and Roxane" in the role of Christian, the lyrical adaptation of the work of Rostand signed by Stavros Xaracos.
Cyrano de Bergerac is a romantic hero, who fights cowardice, stupidity and lies. He deeply loves his cousin Roxane, a smart girl who likes to be courted with beautiful and original words. The young Christian also loves her but can not speak with brillianceunlike Cyrano, who has the gift of gab. Cyrano, with no hope of conquering his cousin, because be quite ugly, decides to help Cristian to conquer her through words.
He teaches him witty remarks, poetry, and even speaks for him, in secret, making Roxane loves him. A third man, however, courts her, the Duc de Guiche, that interferes sending Christian and Cyrano to the Siege of Arras, a violent fighting occurred in the religious wars of France.
Cyrano continues to write letters to Roxane on behalf of Christian, and she comes over to him in the battle, found him dying, wounded in combat.
