Gilberte Valandrey, socialite wife of wealthy Parisian businessman Georges Valandrey, hides under lock and key her previous marriage annulled in America because her husband believes that a marriage becomes indissoluble after the first sexual experience. Only her sister - Arlette - knows this secret.
She is sure to regarding the confidence that her husband puts on her, but at the same time, little bored by the displays of affection, Gilberte encourages a circle of admirers, including Faradel, a middle-aged man dilettante and Charley, - a young vanguard artist.
Georges is negotiating an agreement with an American, Eric Thomson, none other than the first Gilberte's husband. Along with her sister Arlette, she begs to Eric do not reveal to Georges about marriage. Eric, however, considers the possibility of reconciliation and take back that union.
When Georges thinks he has discovered the secret of his wife, Arlette declares she was the first Eric's wife. Eric confirms the lie and is surprised with a delicious kiss, overcoming his old aversion to being kissed on the mouth.
